Today is the first day of the Arbiter Chronicles Blog.
The purpose of this blog is to journal my experiments. I will be putting into practice the things that I have read on the web. Mostly I will be implementing ideas, tactics and hacks found on the webbernets and posting my findings of how well these things work on this blog.
A few years ago I had resolved to not make any new resolutions. For the most part I have kept to this idea. Usually, I would have a New Years toast or long for a New Years kiss. I have a friend that is urging me to create a list of things to accomplish and achieve this year. This year I wanted to focus on experiments and self development instead of resolutions per se.
I have been reading many blogs about GTD and goal setting using S.M.A.R.T. These ideas come out of productivity and organization within corporate culture. These ideas don’t necessarily fit with the mindset that I have as being a quirky, creative person.
There are so many ways to approach goal setting out in the webbernets. Chris Guillebeau has an approach to do an annual review of how things went for him and then set goals going forward, while Tim Ferriss values goal setting and Leo Babauta does not set goals any more. Leo and Tim have debated the importance of goal setting. Some people have opted to have an overall THEME set for their New Year’s achievement summed up in one word. I’ve never tried this approach before, but If I had to pick one word. I know exactly what word I want to pick. My theme for the year is “HUSTLENOMICS 3.0.” And Yes, I am well aware that it is a made up word with some number attached to the end and not technically just one word. But it is a theme for me. So I don’t know if I am going to jump on the New Years resolutions bandwagon.
I want to push myself through experiments that will lead me towards my goals. My goals are more focused on getting the most out of life. Living life BIG. Essentially experiencing more in life. I don’t want to do the traditional lose weight, find love, and handle finances resolutions. I would like to be more available to opportunities to experience life more.
Here’s the plan. Once of every three months, I want to create a self-development project for myself that I will be trying to accomplish. I will also be following up with new blog posts whenever there are any updates to share. I feel that sharing my success or failures will create opportunities for me to experience life.
They say that living well is the best revenge. But I don’t have any known enemies. This year, I will treat myself well and achieve a few goals through experimentation.
Here are some things I aim to tackle this year:
- Kickstart my internet empire.
- Acquire tea certification through STI
- Network with other entrepreneurs
- Develop personal style
- Participate in The BMW Performance Driving School
- Stack more money.
